The Temper Tantrum

It is Friday so you know today is Fatherhood Friday sponsored by Dad-Blogs.

Today I am going to talk about the temper tantrum. How does a temper tantrum come about? One minute your child is happy and playing so nice and the next minute they are stomping their feet and crying uncontrollably and you have no idea why. My daughter Shae does this somewhat often and I usually have no idea why. As you can see from the video below it started out as a happy dance but ended up in a temper tantrum and again I have no idea why. Leave me comments on your theories so I can get to the bottom of this mystery. Happy Fatherhood Friday and head over to Dad-Blogs to read posts by awesome dads and moms. Have a great weekend.

I think some kids are more prone to tantrums; my kids hardly ever had them; when they did, we walked away (as long as they weren't in danger!). Once they figured out that they weren't getting ANY sort of attention from us, they stopped it pretty quick. But I know that doesn't work on all kids.

I do know that I always smile or give some kind of comforting facial expression to a parent whose kid is having a tantrum in public. It's embarrassing enough to have your kids laying on the public ground screaming his/her head off without getting the death stare from strangers. I think it's important for parents to support each other! (especially if my friendly smile is going to prevent the embarrassed parent from doing the worst thing possible: giving in to the kid to quiet the tantrum!)

My oldest was never very prone to tantrums but man the youngest is a huge fan of them. Like you said, they just come on for absolutely no reason. Best of luck in tryign to figure out what caused this one lol.

The fact that I asked her to show me her happy dance LOL. Shae's tantrums are usually caused by food. She's wants more yogurt or another banana or another bowl of fish. She's a muncher.

My son will cry for things he wants but can't have. I think his Grandma (who is taking care of him while we are at work) gives in to this crying. Then we try and reprogram him after work and on the weekends. By Saturday afternoon, his tantrums stop and we usually have a peaceful sunday.
They are really no big deal (yet anyway)..and will only last five minutes at the most

Little kids are hilarious, emotional tornadoes. I'm happy! I'm sad! I'm happy! I never understood it. Just a heads-up: when she turns 10, it comes back, but worse. Crying fits for no reason and intense laughter out of nowhere. Craziness, I tell you!

My son will be playing just fine all by himself when all of sudden he'll start balling his eyes out. I check to see if he got his fingers stuck in a toy or something, but there never appears to be anything physically wrong with him. I was hoping it was teething, but even that hasn't been the case.

Tantrums are a kids way of saying I'm SO comfortable with you that I'm totally cool with showing you my true nature. LOL.

Seriously though. We're on kid #2 going through this and while it's dissipating with her, our 5 year old seems to be redeveloping an advanced stage of tantrum. She's a big fan of talking back and will stop breathing if she gets angry enough.

We've got a 16 month old so I'm really looking forward to going through this with him too. As my husband pointed out, he'll be ramping up right as our 3yo gets out of her stage.

Thanks, hon.

They act like me and get realy mad when things don't go there way I guess. It doesn't take much. Happy FF.

I think tantrums happen because the brain is unable to control stuff yet. As for this video, I'd put this at a 4/10 on the tantrum scale, 10 would be a screaming back arching good time.

It's always more fun watching someone else's child to the happy dance meltdown morph. I'm only getting the baby meltdowns now. Can't wait until Bea is mobile. Sigh.
